Home Destroyed, Pets Lost

A terrible house fire destroyed the home of a Toms River family, one that includes multiple volunteer firefighters and a Toms River Regional Schools sixth-grade student.

The home caught fire around midday Dec. 13, leaving Toms River Volunteer First Aid Captain Alyssa Golembeski trapped in the basement. Fortunately, she was rescued by Toms River Police Department; however, the home was destroyed and the family's four pets perished in the fire.

Toms River Regional Schools is asking its families and supporters to consider donating to the family's GoFundMe.

"While homeowners insurance should cover the cost of rebuilding the house, this campaign aims to offset some of the costs associated with such an event; such as providing clothing, toiletries, and other household items that were lost after such a devastating event," the page states.

The district extends its sympathies to the family, and is hopeful they receive the care and support they need during this difficult time.
