Computer Science Education Week is Dec. 3-9, but students at East Dover Elementary School are getting a head start. Second graders from Mrs. Banka’s class visited Mrs. Koerner in the EDE media center and engaged in plugged and unplugged activities as part of a four-week unit. This week students worked in pairs and had a choice of six different centers that they will each ultimately be able to visit.
Students self-identified their skill level from “basic” to “developer” on a rubric, and indicated on post-its what they learned and how they felt, and left with a new set of skills. Activities will culminate during Computer Science Education Week and its Hour(s) of Code, but students at East Dover are well on their way to a robust computer science education.
