June 6, 2018-- High School East science students participated in a live neurosurgery simulcast from the operating room of Overlook Hospital in Summit NJ, facilitated and narrated by staff at the Liberty Science Center. Students were given an introduction to surgery-related careers and then a pre-lesson on the anatomy of the surgery to be performed: a cervical lamenectomy and fusion on a 72-year-old man with spinal stenosis. During the surgery, medical staff narrated the procedures, and students from five participating schools (two on site and two others virtual) were able to ask questions of the surgery and health care positions.
