Food Drive to Help Hundreds of Families

For the past 29 years, students at Walnut Street Elementary School have teamed up with the Vietnam Veterans of Ocean County, Chapter 200 to provide food to needy veteran families in the area during the holiday season. Last year, the food drive fed approximately 400 families.

Barbara Tracey's 5th grade class at the school spearheaded the food collection and helped to organize and load the food on the truck at the school.  Her class has led this effort for most of the 29 years it has been in existence.

Ron Bogota, from the Vietnam Veterans, began the collaboration between the organization and the school 29 years ago when his son Daniel was a 6th grader at Walnut Street.

On November 17, Mr. Bogota and his son visited Walnut Street Elementary to present a special certificate of appreciation to Mr. Fastnacht, Miss Tracey, her students, and the school community for their continued participation and dedication to the food drive.

Thank You from the Vietnam Vets!
