As a part of character education, a different character trait is featured each month at our school. During the month, teachers do activities with their class related to the character trait, and the theme is highlighted throughout the school.

The character trait for the month of September is COURAGE. .

Each month teachers at the Hoop promote a different character trait by creating lessons and having discussions in class. During the months of December and January, students learned about Honesty and Perseverance. As part of the character trait program, teachers are encouraged to nominate students from their class who especially demonstrate the character trait of the month. The selected students are rewarded with accolades from Mr. Schelmay, Mrs. Walsh, their teacher, and peers. They receive a special award along with some pencils and a baseball, provided by Poland Spring. The students pose for a picture and are able to see it hanging all year outside of the guidance office.
