What is the Middle States AFG?

  • AFG - Accreditation for Growth

  • Voluntarily Selected Accreditation process used by a school district.

  • Developed by  CSS (Commission on Secondary Schools).

  • AFG has been recently redesigned as a 5-year planning and review process for improving student performance.

  • Establishes the school's Beliefs and Mission Statement.

  • Creates student Goals and Objectives.

  • Action Teams and Implementation Teams design effective Action Plans and coordinate and monitor the progress and give reports on periodic basis.

OUR SCHOOL

  • Currently in its second year of AFG protocol process.

  • March 2004 - Visiting Validation Team arrives to review Planning Document.  (Random and selected observations, interviews, and visits throughout the school.)

  • The Team determines if South is following the accepted AFG protocol and if we are working toward achieving goals and objectives.

  • Summary report will follow in three months and include recommendations and commendations of our progress.

  • Within six months of the visit the ACCREDITATION FOR GROWTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE reviews the team's report and makes recommendation for accreditation action to the Commission.

  • Continual process over the next 2 1/2 years with annual reviews by the school.

  • Mid-point review will be done by a member from the original Validation Team.

  • During the fifth year South will conduct its annual review of its plan.

Students are entitled to a safe environment in which to learn.

Safety should include the emotional as well as the physical.

School should be a place that allows students to develop their potential.

All students should be given the opportunity to succeed.

School should foster the joy of learning and achievement as a life-long goal.

Ethical conduct is fundamental to one’s personal growth and development.

Students should share in the responsibility for achieving their own success.

School should foster knowledge and understanding of, and respect for the diversity of the school community.

Acceptance and cooperation are the means by which the school fosters understanding and respect.
