HAPPY 100th BIRTHDAY, MR. CITTA!
Friday, March 28, 2008

The students of Joseph A. Citta Elementary School presented a  “Citta-bration” to honor the namesake of their school.  Joseph A. Citta, a longtime resident of Toms River and a well-known philanthropist, turned 100 years old in March 2008.  He graduated from Toms River High School in 1926.

Events for the “Citta-bration” included a performance by the High School South band and special words from Superintendent Michael J. Ritacco and Roseanne Citta, who represented Mr. Citta’s family.  There was also a PowerPoint presentation that saluted Mr. Citta entitled “Mr. Citta: A Synopsis of His Extraordinary Life”.

Over the years, Mr. Citta has been very involved in the Boy Scouts of America.  Two Citta School Boy Scouts made a special presentation to Mr. Citta in uniform.  Other Citta School students performed in the chorus, band, and read quotes that told why they love Citta School.

At the end of the “Citta-bration”, a sculptured bust of Mr. Citta was presented to the audience and displayed in the lobby of the school.
