HONORING A FALLEN HERO: PFC VINCENT FRASSETTO

The Toms River High School North football jersey of Marine Pfc Vincent M. Frassetto was retired during a ceremony at the high school at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, October 19, 2007. Pfc Frassetto was a 2003 graduate of High School North.

Pfc Frassetto died September 7, 2006 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, NC. He received the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

The ceremony included comments by Superintendent of Schools Michael J. Ritacco and Toms River Township Mayor Paul Brush. A letter was read by Alyssa Hollingsworth, remarks by USMC Gunnery Sgt. Mark Hanks, Dan Lee, HSN Class of 2003, and HSN Principal James Hauenstein. Taps was played by Vincent Cifelli, a member of the HSN Class of 2008 and then there was a laying of a wreath by the Rolling Thunder Color Guard. Following the laying of a wreath, a moving speech was by Vinnie's mother. The USMC hymn was performed by the Toms River HS North Mighty Marching Mariner Band and the National Anthem was sung by Alynne Corrigan, a member of the HSN Class of 2008.

Special Guests included the Rolling Thunder, the Patriot Guard, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post #129, U.S. Marine Corp League, N.J. Army National Guard, Pleasant Plains Fire Department, Silverton Fire Department, and USMC Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Dougherty.
