PASSING THE TORCH: "LIFE JOURNEYS FROM OUR ELDERS"
Thursday, May 29, 2008

As the High School South Class of 2008 prepares to graduate and begin their own life journeys, they first learned about the journeys of a previous generation.

Mrs. Kristine Perry’s Advanced Placement English II students and Mrs. Mary Regan’s TV Production class welcomed community members from the Toms River Senior Center to the High School South Media Center on May 20.  Under the guidance of Mrs. Anne Walsh, the students interviewed the community seniors about what they have experienced on their journeys through life and what wisdom they have gained.

After the interviews, Mrs. Perry’s students researched the historical and cultural context of the individuals, completed a brief biography, and created a PowerPoint presentation on each person.  Mrs. Regan’s students filmed the community seniors while they shared their favorite experiences and their words of advice to young people.

On May 29, the eleven community seniors returned to the Toms River High School South Media Center to view and share the presentations and video.  Each community senior was presented with their individual biography and the Toms River Senior Center was presented with a copy of the video to show at the Center.
