MAY BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING

The Sai Bhajan Group presented a
check for $500.00 and a donation of books to promote
diversity and to share the beauty of the Indian culture.
The books include copies of India Unveiled for our
middle schools libraries and Finder's Keeper's for
our elementary school libraries.

The Board recognized Johann Frias, an Intermediate North 6th
grade student for achieving first place in the Ocean County
Math League Competition’s Individual Award.
|
Gregg Warren of High School North was recognized for being
selected to participate in The New Jersey All-State
Orchestra. The New Jersey All-State orchestra is a highly
selective ensemble that chooses its members from students
that have been selected for their respective Regional
Orchestras. |

Aaron
Heinicke, a High School North freshman, was recognized for
receiving the Shore Conference Football Officials’ Unsung
Hero Award. Aaron performed admirably as cornerback of the
Mariner freshman football team. |
Katie Huryk
and Chelsea Masterson, both High School North students were
recognized for attaining the Girl Scouts of America Gold
Award. One of the requirements of the award is the
completion of 65 hours of community service

Maureen
Nolan, a High School North teacher was recognized for being
selected to present her thesis “Enhancing the Soft Skills of
Moderately Handicapped Student Employees.” She will be
presenting to the International Conference for Special
Educators in Alicante, Spain in July of 2009.

High School
South senior Alexander Mizenko was recognized for placing 2nd
in the Environmental category at the Jersey Shore Science
Fair. As a member of the school districts Authentic Science
Research Program, Alex moved to the next round to place
third at the Delaware Valley Science Fair. He has also
received an award from the American Meteorological Society. |

High School
South teacher Christine Girtain was recognized for being
selected the 2009 Teacher of the Year through the NJ Center
for Science, Technology, and Mathematics Education at Kean
University. Ms. Girtain was awarded the full amount of
$1500 in funds, as the selection committee noted her quality
of teaching and the thoughtfulness of her curriculum
proposal. |
Katherine
Casciola, a 7th grade student at Intermediate
South was acknowledged for winning a gold medal in the
technology category at the Scholastic Olympics. The
Scholastic Olympics were held on March 31st at
Monsignor Donavan High School.
