Miss Zuschnitt's 4th grade and Mrs. Dierking's kindergarten class
have met once a month for a special buddy program.
In the beginning of May, the buddies met for a special flower garden themed
tea party. The 4th graders helped the kindergarteners plant a flower for
Mother's Day. At the end of the gathering, the kindergarteners
read stories to their buddies.
Third grade and Mrs. Dierking's kindergarten class
celebrated Arbor Day on April 28th. They performed poems and
songs and planted Hydrangeas and bushes purchased with the
profit from the kindergarten's Recycled Crayon Sale. Our school is
working hard to beautify the grounds.
In April, Safety Patrols enjoyed a baseball game
at the Lakewood Blue Claws Stadium.
kindergarten students enjoyed an amazing tour of
Cattus Island. They learned about animal coverings
and local habitats. They really enjoyed the nature walk
on a trail concluding at a salt marsh.
Above are several artistic students and
our fantastic art teacher, Ms. Waller.
The student's work was showcased in April at an
arts show at High School North.
A penguin from Jenkinson's Aquarium in Pt. Pleasant
was a special guest in April. We learned that all penguins actually
live below the equator. The students also viewed pictures of other
types of penguins and items pertaining to their lives.
A special assembly was presented to the entire student body on
Friday March 31st. Cultural diversity was what Mr. Bruce Segal had to
offer. He told a story about a bully whose only friend was a dog. One day
a mysterious Genie from a magic shell made his dog disappear. In order for
the boy to rescue his dog, he had to solve a problem. The Genie required him
to find 4 people who were exactly the same but completely different.
The boy took the challenge and magically traveled all over the world to
find what he was looking for. Through his journey, he discovered that although
his new friends ate, dressed and spoke differently; they were all human.
Mr. Segal concluded his performance with a slideshow displaying pictures of
humans from all over the world.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Mrs. Hirseman and Ms. Englehardt conduct a wonderful workshop
for STRE families. The Family Tools and Technology workshop allows
parents and children to safely utilize tools and building materials
to create and invent ways to solve particular problems.
March 2nd STRE celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday. This
national celebration is called "Read Across America Day."
STRE was honored to have a staff member present her family
heirloom to the 5th grade. Pictured here is an original
Abraham Lincoln mask constructed during his presidency!
0n Valentine's Day, STRE was dazzled by the magical delights of
Joe Holiday. Basing his magical feats on literature, this magician
turned a student into Harry Potter; made another's art appear in an apple;
and created snow! The entire staff and student body were amazed
by the talents of Joe Holiday!
Students at STRE celebrated their 100th day of school with
various activities. Some students made a necklace with 100 Fruit Loops, some had a
100 balloon relay and others searched their classroom for 100 Hershey kisses.
Whatever the activity, getting to 100 is FANTASTIC!
The third graders put on a festive holiday concert for their parents.
Current staff and retirees of STRE celebrated the
season with a delicious holiday luncheon.
South Toms River Elementary, for the next six weeks, is hosting a

Some of the foods that will be made during the program include:
Fruit Kebobs, Pesto Pizza, Chicken Vegetable and Pastina Soup,
Mixed Salad Green Bundles, Chicken Cheese Quesadillas,
