Objective:  Use of color, balance, and interpretation of shapes as pictures and size variety in composition.

Materials:

1.   18” x 24” manila or white tagboard, 1 per child.

2.         9” x 12” asstd. construction paper, 5 colors, 1 sheet of each color per child.

3.         Glue.

4.         Black permanent marker.

Procedure:

(Part 1)    Tear each 9” x 12” construction paper into 3 irregular shapes, 1 large, 1 medium, and 1 small.  Glue to 18” x 24” tagboard in a balanced manner.  Some overlapping will occur but try to encourage covering mostly the white or manila tag surface.

(Part 2)    Outline all shapes with black felt pen or marker using thick and thin lines.

(Part 3)    Interpret and detail all shapes as pictorial images, first with pencil, then pen and marker.
