Multicultural School Bus

Art Lesson~

Kindergarten~ Beginning of the year project.

 

Objective~ Students will be able to create a school bus out of cut paper & crayons using shapes, lines, & overlapping. School bus will contain 'students' with a variety of skin tones.

 

Procedure~ Discuss new experiences in kindergarten. Discuss riding the bus & making new friends that have diverse backgrounds. Students will trace a bus pattern and 5 circle patterns (each on a different shade of 'skin') + 2 circles on black for tires. Demo how to make windows out of squares. Demo how to add students inside windows (driver, too)! Add details to students' faces; add lines and other details to bus in crayons. Demo how to overlap tires on the bottom of bus.

 

Materials~           12x18 yellow paper

                                    Bus patterns

                                    Small circle patterns

                                    Small pieces of multicultural skin tone papers

                                    Small pieces of black paper

                                    Glue~ scissors ~ crayons

 

Evaluation~  Participation, effort, behavior, & craftsmanship

 

Standards~      1.3: All students will utilize art elements and art media to produce artistic products & performances.
