"A Midnight Stroll"
Elusive Resist Paintings
![]() | ![]() |
Objective: Students will be able to create elusive drawings of a
snowy midnight stroll using quick sketching techniques in crayon. Foreground
and background arranging are stressed. This project incorporates the resist
process as well.
Materials: 12” X 18” Black Paper
black, gold and silver
crayons
diluted white paint
(2/3 white, 1/3 water)
brushes
old tooth brushes
opt. white glitter
1) Draw
a quick picture of something you would see on a midnight stroll in winter. Use
black crayon. Trees, moon, fences, rocks, and ice ponds are all good subject
matter.
2) Gold
and silver crayons can be used as accents.
3) Texture
trees, rocks, and other shapes with extra lines that will "catch" the
paint.
4) Wet
the paper with water as desired and brush on the diluted white mixture over any
crayon lines you'd like to.
If the snow does not
appear heavy enough, you can go over it again for greater contrast.
5) You
may use an old toothbrush to splatter falling snow.
6) You
may also use white glitter at the last minute to throw into any wet spots to
add an extra shimmer.
Always a success!
