Mini Books/Texture Collage

Objective:
1. Creating a minibook.
2. Introduction to the elements of art.
3. Creating simulated textures using crayons
and a rubbing technique.
4. Using creative thinking skills to create a
cut paper collage from crayon rubbings.

Materials:

Instructions:
1.
Show examples of mini books created by last years students.
2.
Demonstrate how to fold and cut paper to create mini book.
3.
Choose students to pass out elements dittos, crayons, texture sheets,
and elmers. Glue cover to mini
book.
4.
Place texture page of mini book on top of one of the texture
sheets. Rub hard with a crayon to
create simulated texture on one box on the paper. Do a different color and texture in each box on the page.
5.
When finished, glue page inside of mini book. Lay books on floor to dry.

Pass out 9 x 12 white paper.
Demonstrate how to fold into eighths.
7.
Students are to create simulated textures in each of the 8 boxes on the
paper. Use different colors and texture
sheets for each box. Students may also
look for textures around the room that they can transfer onto their paper
(heater vent, brick, fabric of teacher chair, etc.).
8.
When finished coloring, cut shapes or objects out of 9 x 12 colored
texture paper and glue onto a 9 x 12 piece of colored paper to create a
design or scene on the colored paper.
Write name on front and place on floor to dry.
