Third grade students learned how to make books during the third marking period.

First students clipped ten pieces of ditto paper and one piece of colored paper together. Then they punched holes on the fold and sewed their books together using crochet cotton. In the center of the book is a ditto that teaches them how to analyze and critique artwork using terminology they will need to know for the arts ESPA they will take in 5th grade.

The covers of the books were made using scrap cardboard and pages from discarded wallpaper books. The sewn pages were glued into the center of the finished covers.

Inside the front cover of the book is a pocket for a color wheel. The back cover has a pocket for a mini book about the 7 elements of art. The students have already made a page with rubbings of different textures, and two pages that illustrate how to mix the secondary colors, and making tints and shades (value) by adding white or black to a color.

The sketchbooks books are a great tool for teaching, learning, analyzing, critiquing, planning, and evaluating art.
