Art Teachers: Barbara Miller and Lynne Tagliaferro

The photo below shows four surrealistic works created by the sixth grade students of Barbara Miller at Beachwood Elementary School in Toms River, New Jersey. After an introduction to surrealism, students created these collages by cutting photographic images from magazines and gluing them in specific combinations to create visual dreams.

The next two photos show projects created by the students of Lynne Tagliaferro. Lynne teaches in four different schools: Beachwood, Cedar Grove, Hooper Avenue, and Silver Bay. These ceramic tiles were decorated by fifth grade students at Beachwood Elementary School. After the tiles are fired in the "kiln," they will be hung upon the walls of the school.

The artwork below combined oil pastel and watercolor. The underwater scene was created using cool colors--oil pastels to draw plants and watercolors to paint the water. Students drew fish on paper using warm colors of oil pastels. They cut out the fish and glued them to the watercolor scene.
