This page is dedicated to celebrating and publicizing the learning and hard work that takes place everyday during art classes. The photos below show work created by the students of Dr. Kim Defibaugh.
Youth Art Month Pins
Art students of all ages celebrated Youth Art Month by making "wearable art." They cut pictures of artwork out of art catalogs and glued them to a piece of white oaktag. Then they decorated the edges of the white oaktag with colored markers. When the frames were finished, a pin was attached to the back. Each day, Dr. Defibaugh wears a picture of artwork on her clothing and any student is welcome to ask her the name of the artist or the title of the piece. It's a fun way to view and learn about art!
Self-Portraits
| Also to celebrate Youth Art Month, first grade students were read a book called I Am An Artist by Pat Lowery Collins. After looking at self-portraits by famous artists, they drew and painted themselves as artists. Here they are, hard at work creating their self-portraits. | |
 | Here is a display of the finished self-portraits. |
 | This display for Youth Art Month shows photos of art students at work on projects and encourages students to read books about art. Several books include stories of artists when they were children. |
| The print "100 Famous Subjects in Art" was displayed in the hallway. Each day, a print of a famous painting was displayed above it and students looked hard to find something from the painting in the print below. This helps students look closely at art. | |
| Third grade students painted landscapes in the syle of Vincent van Gogh. Here they are, hard at work trying to imitate his style of applying paint to a surface. | |
 | When the paintings were completed, the students were proud of their work. |
| Their paintings were displayed at the high school during a performance by the Garden State Philharmonic. Called the Young People's Concert, it was held on March 4, 2000. | |
Some art projects were created in the technology lab.
