Art Teacher: Vicky Moore

The photo below shows three paintings created by fifth grade students of Vicky Moore at North Dover Elementary School in Toms River, New Jersey.

This project is called "Monet's Skyline." It introduced students to work of the Impressionists, specifically Claude Monet. Students learned about reflections in water and employed line, shape, and color when creating these mixed media projects.

Also during Youth Art Month, the music teacher, Mrs. Wayzeta Strouse, gave Mrs. Moore tapes of music that are being introduced to students during music classes. Mrs. Moore plays the music while the children are working in art to reinforce music lessons. One of the students' favorite is "Mozart Effect"-music for children to relax, daydream, and draw by.

Mrs. Moore found that her art students are more productive when listening to the music. Students also take great pride when they can name the composer. This, she believes, is a perfect blend of art and music.
