Youth Art Month 2000 |
In preparation for the "Spring Impressionism Show" on Thursday, April 13, 2000 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students have been studying Impressionism and the lives of artists such as Monet, Pisarro, and Renoir. Students painted their own landscapes concentrating on the characteristics of Impressionism to create their art: light, bright colors; short broken brushstrokes; and shapes with soft, blurry edges. They learned that the effects that light had on objects and the "feeling" of atmosphere were more important than the objects in their paintings. All students were thrilled with their finished pieces and are excited to display their art in the show.

Also during Youth Art Month, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students created miniature Greek Amphorae. They used sculpey clay to model the foot or base, belly, neck, lip, and handles for their mini pots. After the pots were baked, students decorated them with black permanent markers or liner brushes and black paint. The pots were displayed in the school with prints, photos, and other examples of Greek art.
