Youth Art Month 2001 |
In February, acting Governor Donald DiFrancesco signed a proclamation declaring the month of March to be Youth Art Month in the state of New Jersey. He invited the NJ 2001 YAM chairperson, Dr. Kim L. Defibaugh, to come to the State House for a meeting.

Dr. Defibaugh invited three students to join her when she met the Governor. These students had their designs selected in the annual Art Educators of New Jersey Youth Art Month design competition.

Dr. Defibaugh introduced the governor to the elementary school student whose design was selected to be made into Youth Art Month posters that were sent to 1,200 art teachers in New Jersey. Her design was also made into buttons and was posted on three billboards in the north, central, and south sections of New Jersey. The poster designer's art teacher, Daryl Behm, brought her to the State House and also met the governor.

A second student, whose design was made into a flag for a ceremony in Washington, shook hands with the governor. A third student, who had her design printed onto invitations for the Youth Art Month exhibit in the Trenton State House, was also introduced to the governor. Both girls had their designs printed onto buttons for Youth Art Month. It was an exciting day for New Jersey art teachers and their students. We hope to have continued support for Youth Art Month from the New Jersey Governor's office.
