Co-Presidents Welcome:

We are eager to get this year underway and invite you to join in on all PTO meetings as they will now include an open forum for all of your questions, concerns, ideas, and suggestions.  Our mission is to further parent and teacher involvement in our school.

Along with some new initiatives, we are pleased to continue all the wonderful programs and activities from previous years that make Walnut Street a wonderful place for our children to learn and grow.

We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting.

Sincerely,

Deanna Buccella & Lisa Mahon

PTO NEWS

Walnut Street Elementary kicked off our fall book fair on Patriot Day, September 11, 2009. The event was held in the gym from 6:30-8:30pm and will continue through the following week for all students to attend with their teacher. September 11, 2001 is a day every American will never forget so with this in mind our Parent Teacher Organization had a station set up for children to write a letter or draw a picture to a soldier to thank them for protecting our country. We also had a station set up where the parents and children could collect items for the soldiers such as toiletry items, chapstick, non-chocolate candies and stationary supplies. This will all be packed up and sent to the soldiers to give them something to smile about while they are fighting for our country. After the children did each station and picked out books they headed to the lunchroom to decorated patriotic cupcakes to complete this wonderful event. We would like to thank everyone who came out and supported this event especially our wonderful staff of teachers, administrators and all of the PTO members who volunteered their time. Also the high school TEAM volunteers who helped the kids with the letters, pictures, decorate cupcakes and the spirit wear table. Thank you to all of the parent bakers for the delicious cupcakes! Also we would like to thank and recognize Kelly Murphy our PTO member who organized this event without her hard work this event would not have been such a success. So thank you everyone for the good job and the team work displayed we truly have a wonderful school!

July Executive Board Meeting Minutes

July 28, 2009

Attendees:  L. Mahon, J. Vanderbilt, B.Daks, D. Farley, H. Dawson, M. Cook, K. Murphy,

S. Iacobino, C. Beach, D. Bucella

L.M. read V. Geller’s e-mail regarding the final budget for 2008-2009 year.  The 2009-2010 PTO Budget is $43,105.

C.B. is going to check into a different format.

L.M. read the Budget.

S.I. expressed that she didn’t know about the Gift Cards to the Teachers and that it is not appropriate from a non-profit organization.

D.B. other than Sue, does anyone have a problem with the Teacher/Staff Appreciation going to $1,200?  Should we reduce it?

S.I. vote on the budget as is.

H.D. questioned how is the Giving Tree different?  We gave gift cards last year.

K.M. the cards were given to family(s) in need.

C.B.  needs a volunteer to run the school store.  Expressed the $250 too low.  She’ll use her funds from the store because it is profitable.  Remains at $250 start-up.

D.B. we have one teacher per grade as a liaison for the upcoming year.

B.D.  the bond for the Spelling Bee Student was $50 not the $25 as proposed.  Adjustment made.

S.I. one of the Goals for the 2008/2009 was to purchase equipment for the Special Needs class.  Grants are not available and the number of children is small.  S.I. requested that the Special Needs teachers including gym and assistants be asked what they would like to see purchased for their classrooms as well as items that their students would enjoy having.

L.M. we will revisit that next year once school opens.

Voted on the Budget – Yea 7 / Nay 1
