One lucky student holds up his prize, a ShopRite gift card, won at the ESL Community Resources Fair May 22.

May 27, 2025- The district's English as a Second Language (ESL) Department hosted its 3rd annual ESL Community Fair May 22.

Families came out to Intermediate North to meet with community partners, enjoy Rita's Italian Ice, take part in summer crafts, receive a free book or two from Book Smiles, or even have their hair done by students at Ocean County Vocational and Technical School (OCVTS).

Representatives from Ocean County Library, the Ocean County Sheriff's Office, the YMCA, New Jersey Courts, the county's Parks and Recreation Department, and many more were on hand to provide information and resources to attendees.

There were also plenty of giveaways and prizes, including three iPads, two summer fun baskets, and five ShopRite gift cards. All of this was made possible through the SNAP Gap grant through which the district works with Rutgers to inform local families about access to and eligibility for NJ SNAP food assistance. More information for NJ SNAP is available on the Food Services web page.

Strong partnerships and a team of dedicated and talented students and staff members made for "an amazing night," as it was described by ESL program leads Sara McNerny and Christine Black. Additional photos from the evening are featured below.
