Oct. 14, 2022-- Taught by Toms River Regional Schools teachers, the Title 3 Adult English as a Second Language (ESL) night program provides beginner- and intermediate-level English language classes to adults 18 years or older. The program focuses on conversational spoken and written language, providing authentic learning experiences to all learners, preparing them for job-embedded communication, community connections, and social interactions.

The program will be taught in a fall and spring session, with the former running six weeks from Nov. 1 through Dec. 20, 2022. The spring session runs six weeks from Feb. 21 through March 30, 2023. Sessions will take place 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday evenings at High School North.

The number of English Language Learners (ELLs) and their families in the district (and across the state) has dramatically increased over the last 3-5 years; since June 2021, for example, the number of ELLs has jumped from 337 to 561 as of September 2022. The district's goal is to provide a full circle of academic, socioemotional, and community support to all ELLs and their families. Overwhelmingly, parents have requested information about English classes, and this is an ideal opportunity to provide those families with the language support they have been asking for.
