June 5, 2025- High School North student Bailey Terrett has won the Michelle Obama Award for Memoir.
"Bailey wrote a moving essay titled '5 minutes' reflecting on her mother’s passing," the former First Lady wrote in a Facebook post announcing the award. "I’m so proud of her and can’t wait to see all that she accomplishes in the years ahead."
Last night, at HSN's Senior Scholarship Awards, Bailey was recognized and honored for receiving this prestigious award.
"It was brave for Bailey to open up and write something as personal as losing her mother," said High School North Principal Ed Keller. "That she did so this beautifully and powerfully has warranted this recognition, and we are so proud of her."
Indeed. Congratulations, Bailey!
