November 21, 2022 -- Keller Williams Shore Properties agent and HSE Raider parent, Tammy Indovina, spearheaded a #givewhereyoulive Bowl-A-Thon event to benefit the 18-21 year old special education community-based instruction program at High School East.
The community-based instruction program at HSE is taught by Rachel Barry and Karen Shaughnessy. The teachers take their students into the community three times per week to practice critical skills in a real world setting. Tammy Indovina wanted to host the fundraiser as a fun way to raise money to help offset the cost associated with these trips for parents and staff. To say it was successful is an understatement!
Although the final amount collected at the Bowl-A-Thon is not yet available, all of the other peripheral positive outcomes from the event exceeded all expectations. HSE was represented across many bowling lanes with teams such as the Autism Academy, Gutterly Ridiculous (18-21 year old staff members), and Raiders Including Raiders, which promoted inclusion among peers. Joe Rome, Nik Longo and James Lynch bowled alongside Hailey P. and John M. in a very competitive game for the fellow Raiders!
There were a few standout moments during the night including when Hailey P., a student in the 18-21 year old program, won the 50/50; Nik Longo, a HSE senior, won the 65" flat screen TV door prize; and Lenina C., Julia C., and Gloria H. showed off their work skills by assisting Keller Williams staff with different aspects of the event.
Everyone in attendance had a great night!
