Silver Bay WOW Moment
Mrs. Dorothy McLane, Brandywine Resident and former 5th grade teacher, shared her passion with a class at Silver Bay.

May 30, 2024 -- Silver Bay's Peer Leadership Ambassadors have been fostering a special relationship with residents at Brandywine Assisted Living in Toms River.

Brandywine recently instituted a program called the WOW Moment. Residents were asked to pick something they want to share that is unique and special to their heart. Then, Brandywine tries to make the wish a reality.

Silver Bay was approached with a wish from one of their residents to teach 5th grade class again. Dorothy McLane, who will be turning 92 in June, is a retired 5th grade teacher who misses being with students. One of her favorite math lessons to teach has been Chisanbop. Chisanbop, also known as Fingermath, is a Korean finger counting method used to perform basic math operations.

On Thursday, May 23rd, Mrs. McLane got her wish. She taught a Silver Bay 5th grade class Chisanbop!

The students were excited to learn something new and she was also excited to teach. Being back in a school building brought back so many happy memories for her.

After her lesson, the 5th grade class entertained her with their dance for the 5th grade show. As she left, she was so happy and thankful for the opportunity to be where her heart feels overjoyed.
