June 10, 2019 -- Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and Toms River High School East are co-sponsoring an event titled, “Character is the Voice of Tomorrow,” Friday, June 14.

The event is a whole day promoting and celebrating good character and the core principles of High School East’s mission statement. In 2017 HSE was designated as a Nation School of Character, one of about 500 schools in the nation to earn the distinction.

The event is the brainchild of Alexis Schroepfer, a senior at HSE. Alexis is organizing the event as her individual service project for her National Honor Society chapter, and is doing so because “having good character is a quality that will carry anyone far in life no matter their background or education. Through this event I hope to inspire and education the youth of Toms River to remain true to themselves and always remember the importance of being an honorable person.”

The event will feature a day assembly for HSE students, featuring speakers who will address the importance of character as well as theatrical and musical performances. There will also be a festival from 2 to 5 p.m. open to the entire community of Toms River. The festival is free and will feature food, music, activities, and information about how to get involved in the community.

For more information or to see how you can participate contact Alexis at Lexschroepfer1@gmail.com. Community organizations are invited to set up tables and showcase themselves to the community during the festival, but must express interest in the event at its Facebook event page @characteriscool.
