March 22, 2021 -- Each year since 2006, World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) has been globally observed on March 21. This date has significance since it is the 21st day of the 3rd month, and represents the uniqueness of the triplication of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.
Here in Toms River Schools, teachers, students, and staff showed their support of WDSD on March 22nd by rocking their socks! Crazy socks, mismatched socks, extra socks, or any combination of the above were spotted in our school buildings.
Additionally, High School East organized the WEAR LOTS OF SOCKS campaign and encouraged everyone to participate by sporting their favorite pair (or pairs).
All in all, it was a fun way of showing support and raising awareness about Down syndrome.
