Jan. 19, 2021 -- Pine Beach Elementary is once again participating in the One School, One Book Program. All Pine Beach families, faculty, and staff received a copy of Mr. Popper’s Penguins. Each night, everyone reads a chapter or two from the book, and in the morning, at school, all students are invited to participate in answering a trivia question from the previous night's reading.
Additionally, families attended the Penguin Pointers family Zoom event hosted by Jenkinson’s Aquarium on the evening of January 14 to learn more about penguins.
"Reading Mr. Popper’s Penguins together is wonderful community-building activity all of our families can participate in," reported Pine Beach Supervisor Catherine Mellon.
According to the One School, One Book Program, the benefits of reading aloud are remarkable. Reading to children helps them to listen better and longer, to build bigger vocabularies, to understand concepts better, and to feel positive about both books and learning.
The program at Pine Beach was made possible by the PTO and Title I Family Program Committee.
