Pine Beach Elementary is participating in the One Book, One School Program. It is a family reading program designed to improve the literacy skills of children.

All Pine Beach families, faculty, and staff received a copy of The World According to Humphrey. Each night, everyone reads a chapter from the book and in the morning, at school, all students are invited to participate in answering a trivia question from the previous night's reading.

Additionally, a variety of other activities have been planned including a culminating reading assembly for families on March 3rd.

"Reading The World According to Humphrey together is joyfully expanding the school's sense of community," reports Supervisor Catherine Mellon.

According to the One School, One Book Program, the benefits of reading aloud are remarkable. Reading to children helps them to listen better and longer, to build bigger vocabularies, to understand concepts better, and to feel positive about both books and learning.

The program at Pine Beach was made possible by the PTO and Title I Family Program Committee.
