Elementary school guidance counselors from across the district participated in a collaborative professional development session hosted by Lydia Erakare at Joseph A. Citta Elementary School. The session provided counselors with dedicated time for reflection, resource sharing, and professional dialogue following the winter break. The agenda included opportunities for personal check-ins, discussion of challenging student cases, and the sharing of effective group counseling resources used across schools. Additionally, counselors reflected on insights from the NJSCA Winter PD Day at Rowan University, with highlights from sessions focused on engaging social-emotional learning strategies and addressing bullying within the counseling profession. The session concluded with a reflective resource review, The Counselor’s Compass, emphasizing mindfulness, balance, and counselor well-being. This professional learning experience reinforced collaboration, best practices, and continued growth to support the social-emotional needs of students across the district. (1/12/26)

High School South’s Marco Catalano and Dyson Bouchelle, along with High School North’s Arlo Olivier, donated their time to hang Christmas lights at Ocean’s Harbor House for the holidays in the bitter cold. “On behalf of the leadership team, staff, and residents of The SHORE House, Dawn Samaritano (CEO) and I want to extend our sincerest thanks and absolute delight with the work of Arlo, Marco and Dyson last night,” said Ocean’s Harbor House COO Donna Carlson. “Not only were they impervious to the cold air, but they were wonderful, engaging young men, and our House is Christmas ready!” (12/18/25)
Tuesday, Dec. 9, High School South’s German Club took a cultural trip to the Christmas Village in Philadelphia. The village contains a German-style Christmas market, complete with food and craft vendors designed to mimic the classic Weihnachtsmärkte popular in Germany during the holiday season. Students were able to shop for gifts, eat traditional foods like bratwurst, spätzle, and schnitzel, and had the chance to go ice-skating and ride a carousel and Ferris wheel. (12/11/25)
During the Shore Conference Championships at Ocean County Park, High School South’s Jack O’Leary—fresh off his Ocean County title—set a new school record for Ocean County Park, besting Kyle Kroon’s 2013 run by four seconds. Members of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office visited Intermediate South to help kick off Violence Awareness Week. Students attended a presentation on bullying prevention, internet safety, and the importance of empathy—understanding how our words and actions affect others. Agent Mike Caldwell and Detective Jordyn Madigan led the presentation, encouraging students to make responsible choices, treat others with kindness and respect, and speak up to help keep our school community safe and supportive. The Fall Fest event (formerly known as Vest-A-Cop) that took place Sept. 29 happened on Washington Street in downtown Toms River, so it’s only right that Washington Street Elementary School played a big role in the event’s success. The school offered its donation to benefit Toms River PBA 137 last week, proving it's ALL IN when it comes to supporting our local community and local law enforcement. (10/6/25)

Preschoolers have been having a blast during Extended School Year (ESY) with an amusement park theme. From creative crafts to sweet treats, there's never a dull moment. Yesterday’s highlight? Occupational therapist Jenn Viola and physical therapist Lauren Hartzfeld joined the MD class during ESY at West Dover for an engaging, movement-filled activity that had every learner smiling. “This collaborative therapy session was thoughtfully designed around the students’ interests, promoting gross motor skills, turn-taking, and FUN,” said district behavioral analyst Sarah Strazzella. “Thank you to our amazing therapists for creating such meaningful and exciting experiences for our students!” (7/28/25)
