Aug. 17, 2022-- Remember when students from Project SPEAR-IT—the CTE program funded by the United Way of Monmouth and Ocean Counties—utilized their newfound construction skills to build lifeguard stands for Ortley Beach thanks a partnership with (and additional funding from) Toms River Township? Well, those stands have been put to good use this summer, and will be for many summers to come.

Nine total stands line the beach at 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th, Fielder, Fort, and Harding avenues. Photos are courtesy of district educator Brian Cerbone, who helps manage Ortley lifeguards during summer.

The stands look fantastic-- and, most importantly, sturdy!-- and are a testament to the fine handiwork of our students and the invaluable support of our community partners. May everyone continue to have a safe and happy summer.
