'Committed to helping students explore their abilities, strengths, interests, and talents'

Feb. 2, 2026- This week, Feb. 2 through 6 is National School Counseling Week as recognized by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA). Its purpose? To focus public attention on the unique contributions of all school counselors, as well as to highlight the tremendous impact school counselors have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.

The 2026 theme is School Counselors Amplify Student Success, and that's exactly what counselors throughout TRRS do each day. This week, therefore, is dedicated to amplifying the amplifiers. And if you want to make something, anything, truly official, you absolutely must issue a proclamation.

And a proclamation was indeed issued leading up to this week, by none other than Superintendent Michael Citta himself, recognizing that school counselors, among other things, "help students explore their potential and set realistic goals for themselves," and confirming the district's participation in a week honoring school counselors who are an "integral part of the educational process."

Certificates of appreciation have been issued to all school counselors by Director of Student Services John Green, and schools have a variety of things planned this week, from morning announcement shout-outs to bagels and coffee to clever and affectionate signage:

Im a school counselor whats your superpower

I heart my school counselor

every student deserves a school counselor

National school counseling week thank you counselors

Students in the journalism program at High School East went so far as to create a fun, Full House-themed video to show appreciation for their counselors and social workers (right). Indeed, love for these staff members really is “everywhere you look” this week.

School counseling programs and the dedicated staff who comprise them are – as the ASCA notes – for each and every student, not just some. School counselors create a positive, inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and supported.

For those reasons and to celebrate School Counseling Week, we're sharing photos below of our valued, dedicated, and indispensable school counselors in action below, and will be adding to the gallery throughout the week.

Thank you, school counselors, for all that you do!
