South Student a Summer Intern at State House
South Student a Summer Intern at State House
June 17, 2026
- Thanks to 2019 High School North alum Zach Dougherty
— who currently serves as
Assemblywoman Maureen Rowan's chief of staff
—
High School South student Liam Figueras had the opportunity to experience the legislative process in real time. Liam was able to introduce himself to assembly members and other elected officials while also meeting Assemblywoman Rowan, with whom he will complete a summer internship. During his visit, he observed the Assembly Community Development and Women's Affairs Committee as legislators considered, debated, and voted on a variety of bills. He witnessed firsthand the discussions, speeches, and advocacy efforts presented by both Republican and Democratic representatives. The experience concluded with a tour of the State House and Annex, as well as an opportunity to network with legislators and staff members. Liam plans to continue his internship with Assemblywoman Rowan throughout the summer and into the fall, where he hopes to deepen his understanding of government, build professional connections, and potentially contribute to the development of legislation for future consideration.
