Oct. 28, 2024-- Halloween Spirit Week isn't just for the school buildings. Even district employees at 1144 Hooper Avenue are in on the act, and their spirit week kicked off with a pumpkin-decorating contest today. Yes, staff members spent a portion of the weekend making and decorating their most creative pumpkins. And who would judge this hard work? Students in the Early Learning Center, that's who. The young judges were clear, firm, and objective in their assessments. They cast their votes in the cups in front of each gourd, and those votes were tallied this afternoon. The winner? ... ...

Congratulations to Assistant Superintendent Cara DiMeo, whose "Unicorn Princess Pumpkin" (left) was named winner. Coming in second was Assistant Superintendent Pat Thomas and his "Cookie Monster Pumpkin." Thomas himself has been known to say, "Second place is the first loser," and is reportedly not taking the loss well and demanding a recount. Third place, in an upset, went to Purchasing, which is typically the favorite when it comes to holiday collaborative spirit, but fell short of expectations.
