BWD mindALIGNED

A student at Beachwood works on her abstract self portrait where she used her knowledge of shapes, symmetry, patterns, and colors to represent her individuality.

Since October, students and teachers at Beachwood Elementary have been working in conjunction with Count Basie Theatre and mindALIGNED to infuse arts education throughout the curriculum.

This month, artist resident Molly Johnson has been meeting with K-2 classes to create a collaborative art project that addresses state standards in the areas of math and social and emotional learning. While creating their abstract self portraits, students infused their knowledge of shapes, symmetry, patterns, and colors to represent their individuality. These self portraits will soon be combined to create a beautiful grouping of canvases that will bring a sense of color and community to the school's cafeteria.
