As a culminating experience for mindALIGNED, Beachwood students came together to celebrate their beautiful artwork which is displayed prominently in the Garden Cafe.

Since October, students and teachers at Beachwood Elementary have been working in conjunction with Count Basie Theatre and mindALIGNED to infuse arts education throughout the curriculum. The initiative is funded by the Grunin Foundation.

Artist resident Molly Johnson has been meeting with K-2 classes to create a collaborative art project that addresses state standards in the areas of math and social and emotional learning. While creating their abstract self portraits, students infused their knowledge of shapes, symmetry, patterns, and colors to represent their individuality.

These self portraits were combined to create a beautiful grouping of canvases that bring a sense of color and community to the school's cafeteria, a.k.a. the Garden Cafe.
