Pandemic Will Not Dim Holiday Spirit

In the past, students from Toms River Schools have participated in holiday activities with Brandywine Assisted Living residents in Toms River. However, this year is a year like no other and students were not permitted to visit the residents in person. After some brainstorming, ideas were crafted for different ways for the students to celebrate with the residents and show them how much they are still in their thoughts!

Silver Bay, West Dover, Hooper Avenue and Beachwood Elementary Schools teamed up to collect items for the residents. They collected holiday decorations, blankets, and warm socks to distribute to the residents over the holidays. The magic of the season will not be dimmed by the current circumstances of the pandemic.

The holiday cheer continued when the students from Mrs. Danelson’s fourth grade class at Silver Bay hosted a virtual holiday sing-along through a Google Meet. Students and residents shared their favorite holiday memories and enjoyed singing some popular holiday classics together. It is the most wonderful time of the year when time can be spent together.

The holiday spark did not stop there! The fire in the students' hearts kept glowing as the fourth graders at Silver Bay created light up cards and snowflake messages to send to Brandywine residents.

So even though the way they celebrated this year looked different, the caring and sharing surpassed the boundaries set by the pandemic. When there is a will, there's a way to make everyone feel special.
