March 12, 2026- They might be two up-and-coming event planners, but it's uncertain that they planned for THIS.

High School South Business Academy juniors Elle Lotano and Genevieve Godino took home first place in the Event Planning category at the prestigious FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) NJ State Leadership Conference in Atlantic City March 11.

Their winning project, titled "The Next Generation Gala," featured their development of a website promoting a black-tie event they created to foster meaningful connections between young students and successful entrepreneurs.

So, were they surprised? Yes and no.

"We didn't know what to expect, but we knew that we worked really hard," said Genevieve. 

With the win — watch it happen in the video below — the girls earned the right to travel to San Antonio, Texas, where they will represent HSS and compete in the FBLA National Leadership Conference from June 29 through July 2.

"We're really excited about nationals, and we feel really good about our presentation," said Elle.
