Bears Put Finishing Touches on New Outdoor Tables

June 10, 2026- Earlier this spring, it was announced that Beachwood Elementary School had earned a grant from Sustainable Jersey for Schools whereby students in High School South's signature CTE program, SPEAR, would build outdoor tables which Beachwood Peer Leaders would help them finish. Today, those tables were delivered and completed. The spirit of collaboration, teamwork, and mentorship was on full display, and those Stable, Sustainable Tables That Enable are ready to be put to good use in the Bears Care Garden. See photos of all of the fun and hard work that took place at Beachwood this morning below.

Out with the old ...

The two metal circular tables that had provided seating in the garden had not yet been moved to their new location. No matter; South students took care of it (above), and then brought in the six custom-made tables (right), each with two benches, to the new-and-improved area. The tables will be given time to season, and will then be stained in the fall and eventually painted.

Peer Leaders ready to work!

One of the biggest lessons South mentors taught Beachwood students was the importance of applying pressure to the back of the drill so screws didn't strip and were powered in smoothly.
