Feb. 2, 2026- The following students were named winners at Intermediate North's 2026 Science Fair, and will advance to the regional fair at Stockton University in March:

1st Place

Devansh Gupta for Measuring How Light, Water, and Leaf Health Modulate Plant Electrical Signals

Noah Lessig for Can Mycorrhizal Fungi Improve the Growth of Radish Microgreens in Martian Soil?

2nd Place

Saanvi Gupta (left) for Does the Color of Light on Plant Leaves Affect the Plant’s Chlorophyll Levels and Growth?

Kavya Patel for Which Biodegradable Hydrogels Help Plants Grow Taller?

3rd Place

Ishani Patel for Which Irrigation System Creates the Tallest Plant and the Longest Roots?

Dina Abdelaal for Do Different Brands of Energy Drinks Lead to Tooth Decay?

Vidisha Patel for Which Marble Makes the Farthest Distance when Launched by a Catapult?

The event was held Jan. 28 with 25 students presenting science projects. Since early fall, the Science Club has met weekly after school with teachers Katie Keller and Kristin Renkin, who guided students through the science experiment process. Students then selected a science or engineering topic that interested them, and applied a variety of skills and procedures while exploring different fields of science and engineering.

"Our hope is that this experience sparks a lasting curiosity and interest in these fields," said Renkin.

The school thanked its judges, who "generously gave their time to speak with each student and provide valuable feedback on their projects," and included Int. North teachers Mrs. Hope and Mrs. Kinlin; High School North Principal Ed Keller; Director of 6-12 Curriculum Adrienne Gold; Assistant Superintendent Pat Thomas; Int. North Supervisor Brianne Bates; and Int. North Principal Lynn Fronzak. High school students from Christine Girtain’s Authentic Science Research program also volunteered their time to assess projects and mentor their middle school peers.

"Congratulations to all the students who participated this year," said Renkin. "We are extremely proud of each of you, and hope that you enjoyed this experience!"
