GT Expo a showcase of skills photo 1

Stump the superintendent? A couple of gifted and talented students attempt to school Superintendent Michael Citta, and it appears to be working.

March 27, 2026- The K-5 Gifted and Talented Excellence Expo at Walnut Street Elementary showcased the academic initiative and technical skills of students from across the district.

Participants presented a wide range of research-based projects, including studies on natural disasters, original engineering inventions, and in-depth explorations of Greek mythology. By developing physical models and detailed presentations, these young scholars demonstrated their ability to translate complex concepts into professional-quality displays for the school community. The quality of the student work reflects a rigorous curriculum designed to challenge high-achieving learners.

“Our students really brought our programming to life this year," said Walnut Supervisor of Instruction James Klass. "It is clear that our teachers are providing rich and meaningful opportunities while piquing student interest in a variety of topics.”

This event provided a platform for students to share their findings with families and peers, bringing the community together to celebrate each others’ accomplishments.

The success of the expo was made possible by the leadership of Superintendent Mike Citta, Assistant Superintendent Cara DiMeo, and Director of K-5 Curriculum Rachel Cicala. Their guidance, along with support from the Toms River Education Association, ensured a worthwhile and enjoyable event for all.
