Guidance Announcements

  • Spring College Fair

    The Ocean County School Counselor Association (OCSCA) will host a College Fair at the RWJ Barnabas Health Arena on the campus of High School North on March 19, 2024 from 6pm - 8pm. This free expo is open to all students and their families. Over 100 colleges, universities, technical schools and the armed forces will be in attendance. A financial aid workshop will be presented by HESAA at 5:30PM in the HS North Auditorium. An NCAA workshop will be held in the HS North Auditorium at 7PM.
  • 2024 Torch Leadership Academy

    TORCH is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit that focuses on teaching high school age students ethical leadership skills and empowers them to practice these skills in their personal and professional lives. We are currently accepting applications for our 2024 TORCH season and wanted to make sure we reached out to your school district in hopes of seeing your students apply. This 4-day interactive youth leadership program will take place at Stockton University from July 20th to July 24th, 2024 and is free to attend for all selected students! Please forward the following application link to your students or to any faculty and staff members you believe have students they would like to nominate, and see our 2024 program flyer. I have also included testimonials and impact data to show you what past participants have gained from attending TORCH. All applications are due by April 12th, 2024!   • The Princeton Review Digital SAT Practice Test - FREE

    The new Digital SAT is coming! This is an opportunity to take a free, full-length practice Digital SAT. After the test, you will receive a score report detailing strengths and weaknesses which will help you prepare for the official exam.     Seniors - The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now available for short periods of time while the US Dept. of Ed monitors site performance and updates the form as needed. Begin your FAFSA today and be aware of your colleges' deadlines for scholarship consideration and other financial aid deadlines.

    On Tuesday, March 12, 2024, 6 - 7pm at Silver Bay Elementary School This workshop will help parents and caregivers to develop stress responses and learn to "reset & renew". There will be discussions to embed more mindfulness and reset techniques into daily routines at home to create a more calm, regulated home environment.     This informative evening being held in the High School EAST Student Center, is presented by Mr. Eric Ginsberg from Solution Prep. Parents will learn how to save thousands off the cost of college, how the FAFSA Simplification and FUTURE Acts change Financial Aid and how these changes affect your family. Whether your student is about to head to college or just starting high school, don't miss this most informative evening!
  • 8th Grade Parent Night

    The High School South Guidance Department will host an information night on Thursday, January 25, 2023 at 6:00pm in our Cafetorium for the parents of incoming High School South Freshmen for the 2024/25 school year. Topics will include the New Jersey Department of Education Graduation Requirements, the freshmen course selection process, the transition from Intermediate to High School, as well as athletic programs, school clubs and activities. There will be a question-and-answer session at the conclusion of the presentation.

  • Junior Parent Night

    On November 1st @ 6:00pm, the staff from the Guidance Office will speak to Juniors and their parents in our cafeteria. Topics will include senior schedule, college applications, college visitations, merit award information, adult vocational programs, military and entering the workforce. There will be a question and answer session at the end of the presentation. Please enter the Cafeteria from the Hooper Avenue parking lot entrance.
