July 14, 2026- Courtney Decker was a star runner at High School North circa 2000. She's still running, and amazingly still breaking records.

Decker was part of a relay team that recently broke the American and world record in the women’s age group of 40-44 in the 4x800. Joined by runners representing New York, Iowa, and Oregon, the Jersey athlete and her relay mates crushed the American record by a whopping 28 seconds, and bested the world record set by Canada in 2016. 

"A tremendous amount of planning and training went into this race, and getting us all at the same location at the same time," Decker said. "We had a goal to break the record and run sub-nine minutes, but we demolished that by running an 8:50.64. It was pretty awesome!"

Pretty awesome indeed. Once off the track, Decker will resume her role as a beloved Intermediate East life skills teacher, this year adding technology to her educational repertoire.

"Tech is new for me, so I should start focusing on that over the running," Decker joked.

If it's a race to master technology curriculum by September, we suspect Decker will be just fine.
