Sept. 4, 2026- High School North's impressive season-opening comeback victory over Bergen County powerhouse Northern Highlands on Aug. 28 was fueled by short and long touchdown runs and a second-half defensive shutout. That theme continued during the Mariners' big win over rival High School East yesterday.

A swarming, relentless defense (above) applied the pressure and held the Raiders scoreless, and was highlighted by HSN senior Tarrell Council's pick-six. All five of the Mariners' offensive touchdowns were scored on the ground as the team rolled to a 42-0 win.

The 2-0 start to the season is hugely encouraging for the Shore football power, which uncharacteristically stumbled out of the gate last year to 1-4 before recovering to reach the state sectional semifinals. The Mariners will look to continue their winning ways next Friday against Point Pleasant Boro, which is also 2-0.

The Raiders (1-1) will look to get back on track next week against B South rival Lacey.
