Micah Ford on stage with trophy

Before posing solo with his Zoneman Award, High School North quarterback Micah Ford celebrated with his team on stage, shared the trophy with teammates, and helped lead the cheers for the Jersey Sports Zone, which made a surprise visit to the school.

Dec. 9, 2022-- The crew from Jersey Sports Zone descended on High School North today, video camera and microphone in hand, to celebrate the state-winning team and to surprise quarterback Micah Ford—who piled up yards and TDs on the ground and through the air at a record pace throughout the team’s undefeated season—with the Zoneman Trophy.

The team—which is almost a week removed from winning the South Jersey Group 5 state title—was joined on the stage by the school’s band and cheerleaders, and was recognized by the sports network, which took photos and conducted interviews.

It was a surprise visit; although he was one of five finalists, Ford was not aware he had won what’s described as the “Heisman Trophy” for New Jersey football players. On being told to go to the auditorium with his team, Ford said, “I thought it was just going to be a party with some food or something."

Micah Ford is the first junior to ever win the Zoneman, an award that is voted on by more than 70 coaches and media across the state.

During an interview which will air on in the coming days, Ford thanked his family—the necklace he wears is for his father—teammates, and coaches.

Before leaving the HSN auditorium, the star athlete’s unique kindness and humility—which Principal Ed Keller praised during his own interview with Jersey Sports Zone—was on full display.

“So … am I allowed to take this home?” Ford asked earnestly, holding his trophy.

Yes, he was certainly allowed, as it was his to keep. He more than earned it.

Ford said his family was at every game, and much of the satisfaction of winning the state title was "making them proud," and seeing "a smile on everyone's face."
