Sept. 26, 2025- The High School East girls soccer team entered their home game against a tough Barnegat team yesterday at 6-0 on the season. Prior to the game, the team celebrated its seniors.
Lo and behold— as has become a familiar story at East when it comes to these occasions— it was seniors who led the way in a hard-fought, 1-0 win.
Senior Alyssa Southworth scored the game's only goal— her first of the 2025-2026 season— on an assist from fellow senior Ella McNeary (above, no. 15).
The win against their Shore B South rival moved the Raiders to 7-0 on the year and 4-0 in the division.
It was a special moment for the team's seniors, but even they would have to give a huge amount of credit to a pair of underclassmen goalies for keeping Barnegat off the board. Sophomore Emma Mastriano and freshman Maddie Moore combined for four saves.
Incredibly, the duo has only yielded two goals on the season (!).
Congratulations to HSE girls soccer on a splendid senior night, and here's to hoping the wins keep coming, starting with a matchup against a talented Red Bank Catholic team tomorrow.
