May 4, 2026- Seniors Evan Schmidt and Canaan Sanzone each went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI, leading High School South to a resounding 11-1 win over Southern on May 2 and securing the Indians' first trip to the Ocean County Tournament final since 2016.
Jaden Geremia had three hits and reached base four times, while teammate Anthony Abatemarco notched two hits and knocked in two runs. Max Pagano threw a solid four innings of one-run ball, and Sanzone's three-run home run in the third inning essentially put the game out of reach.
The tournament's no. 2 seed, High School South will face Brick Memorial — which defeated High School East in the other OCT semifinal matchup — in the championship game this Thursday, May 7.
It's been an outstanding season for Indians baseball. The team sits at 12-3 overall and 7-1 in the Shore B South division. Prior to the game against Southern, junior pitcher Aiden Moylan (right) threw a no hitter in a 6-0 win over Brick Memorial, striking out 12. South currently has a five-game winning streak.
The Indians will have a home-and-home series against Central Regional today and Wednesday, which should be a good tune-up for the OCT final, which is also at Central Regional. Best of luck, HSS baseball!
