south welcomes newest inductees photo 1

May 5, 2026- On Friday May 1, High School South welcomed the newest inductees into its softball Hall of Fame. Coach Jim Christiano — at the helm for 15 years and who also served as athletic director — was a guest of honor and inductee on the coaching side, and player inductees included a group of pitchers with a combined total of more than 1,700 strikeouts:

  • Janis Traub Hansen (class of 1976)
  • Jodi (Solana) Ussery
  • Rachel (Purpuro) House (above);

a duo of catchers: 

  • Harley Gowdy
  • Madison Liguori (now part of the HSS staff);

a star center fielder in Andrea (Conover) Powitz; and two "forces at the plate" in Sara (Allen) Paturzo and Renae Avalone.
