July 1, 2025- The baseball team has won 50 straight games and counting. We can start there.
But they're not the only ones who were streaking toward sports success this past year at Intermediate East.
Both the boys' and girls' track teams won the Red Division, the Toms River Relay Meet, and became the Ocean County Middle School Champions for the second consecutive year. Combined, the boys and girls squads broke a dozen school records this past season, and three athletes became individual county champions— Brielle MacDonald in the 800M, Bailey McLean in the 400M, and Miguel Walters in the high jump.
"We are very proud of everyone, and excited for another winning season next year," said coach Beth Blaine.
Then there's the Rockets softball team. The A squad won the Red Division for the fifth year in a row. They were led by captains and All-Stars Brianna DeLima, Julia Sherman, and Maddie Keller, who helped spark the team to a 9-1 record.
That 2025 spring softball season was an appropriate swan song for coach Denise Dellacqua who, since she began her tenure in 2005-2006, has coached her team to a remarkable 10 division titles. Coach Dellacqua had expressed to her team as well as her friends and colleagues at East how much she has enjoyed her time teaching and coaching at Toms River Regional Schools, especially at Intermediate East. Despite her retirement, she knows she will continue to see her many lifelong friends in the near and distant future. After all, it's hard to stay away when that much winning has produced that many special memories.
The girls soccer team, meanwhile, also won a fifth straight Red Division crown. Addison Cleaver, Mia Storch, and Maddie Moore were selected as All-Stars, and the pride with which the entire team competed had coach Allyson Boucher beaming with delight.
"Through hard work, dedication, and true teamwork, these athletes gave it their all and made us proud every step of the way," Boucher said. "Way to go, champs!"
Winning records, broken records, titles, and trophies were the norm for athletes wearing Rocket red this past year.
"This has been a banner year for our student athletes here at Intermediate East," said Principal Bryan Madigan. "The wins and individual accomplishments are obviously wonderful, and we're especially proud of how our Rocket athletes have taken lessons of kindness and leadership from the classroom to the field and court. It's a testament to the work and commitment of our coaches, teachers, parents, and of course our Rocket-ready students. Everyone here is incredibly proud of the sports success we witnessed in 2024-2025."
No doubt that down the line and down all lineups, 2024-2025 was indeed a banner year for athletics at Intermediate East. Meet the teams and athletes who experienced all that success below.
